Stio Figment Jacket + Bib Review | ALPINR World Tour Tested While Skiing Austria

By Michael Matthews – Owner, Backpacker OutdoorsFrom waist-deep powder in Japan to storm days in Canada, the ALPINR World Tour has been a nonstop test of gear in changing environments. Austria brought something different. Fast groomers. Variable snow. Wind at higher elevations. Long days moving from lifts to villages and back into alpine terrain.

Austria became the perfect place to put the Stio Figment Jacket and Figment Bib through real-world testing.

Built with a freeride mentality, the Figment system leans away from the tight, minimalist shell approach and instead focuses on durability, mobility, weather protection, and all-day mountain comfort. After putting it through long ski days in Austria, this setup quickly became one of our favorite outerwear combinations of the tour.

The biggest takeaway?

This setup feels like it was built by people who actually spend full days in the mountains.

Stio Figment Jacket Review

The Figment Jacket immediately stands out because of its freeride fit. If you're used to slimmer technical shells, this feels different in the best way possible. The relaxed cut gives room for layering and movement without feeling bulky.

On colder Austria mornings, layering became easy. Midlayers never felt compressed, movement stayed natural, and the jacket never restricted motion through trees, side hits, or quick transitions.

Weather Protection

Austria delivered changing conditions throughout the trip—sunny mornings, wind on ridgelines, and snowfall later in the day.

The Figment handled all of it.

Its PeakProof™ 3-layer shell uses:

  • 20,000mm waterproofing
  • 10,000 g/m² breathability
  • PFAS-free DWR finish
  • Fully seam-sealed construction
  • 100% recycled polyester shell

Even during heavy snow and windy lift rides, moisture stayed out while heat management remained surprisingly good for a heavier-duty shell.

Features That Actually Matter

Some ski jackets throw features everywhere just for marketing.

The Figment includes features you actually use:

Two-way underarm vents

  • Easy temperature control without removing layers

Helmet-compatible hood

  • Large enough for bigger ski helmets while still cinching down cleanly

Multiple storage pockets

  • Chest storage
  • Interior stash pockets
  • Security pocket
  • RFID pocket
  • Goggle wipe

YKK Aquaguard zippers

  • Smooth operation even with gloves on

The pocket setup became one of the biggest highlights during the trip. Snacks, gloves, GoPro batteries, passes, and small essentials all had dedicated space.

No digging around.

No overloaded backpack.

Stio Figment Bib Review

The Figment Bib might have been the biggest surprise.

Bibs are usually either comfortable or functional.

These somehow managed both.

The higher chest design kept snow out during deeper conditions while maintaining enough flexibility to avoid feeling restrictive.

Storage That Makes Sense

One thing Stio clearly understands:

People carry a lot on mountain days.

The Figment Bib includes:

  • Large chest pocket
  • Waist pockets
  • Thigh storage pockets
  • Internal media storage
  • Key loop attachment

The thigh pockets became a favorite for quickly accessing gloves, snacks, and extra gear during lift rides.

Durability

After repeated use, the kick patches and reinforced lower sections stood out.

Ski edges, boots, and general abuse usually destroy bibs over time.

The Figment feels built for seasons rather than one trip.

Mobility & Fit

Features include:

  • Adjustable suspenders
  • Articulated knees
  • Gusseted construction
  • Adjustable waist system
  • High-abrasion kick patches
  • Internal boot gaiters

Skiing Austria meant everything from carving groomers to moving through softer off-piste sections.

Nothing pulled.

Nothing rode up.

Nothing felt restrictive.

The movement was noticeable immediately.

Our Final Thoughts: ALPINR World Tour Tested in Austria

Some ski gear looks great online but falls apart after real use.

The Stio Figment Jacket and Bib did the opposite.

The more days we spent skiing Austria, the more the details stood out.

This setup isn't built for one perfect day.

It's built for long seasons, changing weather, and real mountain use.

If you're looking for outerwear that prioritizes durability, movement, weather protection, and comfort over chasing lightweight trends, the Figment system deserves serious attention.

From the Alps of Austria to wherever winter takes you next, this is gear that feels ready for it.
