Hiking Guadeloupe Mountains National Park

Adventure Spotlight Backpacker team member, Savannah, recently set off on an adventure to White sands National Park Great Sand Dunes National and then the Guadeloupe Mountains National Park! Here is a little Q & A with her about the exposition, she shares some excellent insights on prepping for a trip like this one!

Q: Why did you chose this place?

A: We chose these places because none of us had ever been and they are beautiful places with great hikes.

Q: Did you use a website or other resource to help you plan your trip?

A: Yes, AllTrails was very helpful in helping us to find good trails, and it was also helpful when navigating the trail and also to get to the trail head.

The Dyrt was another app that we used to help us find overnight camping spots.

Q: Did anything about your adventure surprise you?

A: Yes, I was surprised at how fast the weather can change in the mountains. Before we started our first hike, we checked the weather, and it was all clear, but 5 hours later, there was a thunderstorm.

Q: What gear was absolutely essential to help you love your adventure?

A: My water camelback resovior, trekking poles, good hiking boots

Q: What gear do you wish you had brought?

A: A better rain jacket

Q: Would you have done anything differently?

A: I wish I would have not been so scared about the rain and the animals and just enjoyed the moments.
