Trails: 1.5 Miles
Drive time from downtown Baton Rouge: 17 minutes
Located just west of the BTR Metro Airport is the Blackwater Conservation Area. Once a dirt and gravel mine, this 57 acre site is now brimming with native plants, trees, and wildlife. Over 1.5 miles of maintained gravel hiking trails surround Blackwater’s 2 large lakes each with a number of small piers providing easy access to fishing or just enjoying time by the water. Journey down the River Birch Forest trail to the sandy banks of the Comite River to play, explore or enjoy a picnic.
The Blackwater Conservation Area is that small adventure that is close to home where you can enjoy a short hike or make a day of it with the whole family.
